What happens to your respiratory system if you drink alcohol
Ingesting high amounts of drinking can cause your respiratory system to slow down drastically and could potentially cause a coma or death. If the drinker inhales vomit into the lungs, it can lead to a condition known as aspiration pneumonia, It could also lead to lung abscesses. If the intoxicated person vomits in his/her sleep, death could occur from suffocation. Alcohol intoxication also increases the frequency of sleep apnea and may result in respiratory failure from oversedation. Chronic alcohol abuse disrupts the proteins that keep fluids out of the lung, lowers a protective antioxidant, disrupts immune defenses and can lead to a condition known as alcoholic lung.
