What is the respiratory system, how it works, and ten interesting facts about the respiratory system.
The respiratory system is a biological system consisting of specific organs and structures used for respiration. It is used to breath. Breathing starts at the nose and mouth. After air is inhaled it goes down the back of your throat and trachea. It then divides into air tubes called bronchial tubes. As the bronchial tubes go through the lungs they divide into bronchioles. They then end into alveoli. One interesting fact is that other animals also have a form of the respiratory system. This includes elephants, horses, and some kinds of fish. A different interesting fact is that some kinds of insects also have a form of the respiratory system. Fish take in oxygen through their gills to breath. Amphibians exchange air through their skin. Elephants breath through their trunk when underwater. Some fish do not breath through their gills but through lungs. Coughing is done through the respiratory system and is used to clear dust and other things like that. Plants don’t technically have a respiratory system but instead use photosynthesis. Multiple diseases occur in the respiratory system including asthma, bronchitis, and many more. All mammals have a respiratory system.
